The mission of the athletic training program is to deliver a student-centered graduate experience that focuses on innovative teaching and diverse experiential learning opportunities to promote higher-order thinking, clinical application, and self-reflection. Through a patient-centered, holistic approach, students will be prepared to serve the community and the expanding healthcare profession as competent and confident athletic trainers.
- Develop confident, competent, and skilled professionals prepared for the Board of Certification examination and entry-level professional practice.
- Identify and select high quality candidates with the greatest potential for academic success, clinical development, and program completion.
- Identify, recruit, and retain a diverse teaching and clinical faculty.
- Promote excellence and innovation in all instructional aspects of the curriculum, including classroom teaching, laboratory instruction, and all forms of assessment.
- Provide support and develop a culture of continuous improvement for didactic and clinical teaching effectiveness.
- Provide opportunities for students to gain clinical experience as part of a healthcare team with diverse patient populations and a variety of conditions commonly seen in athletic training practice.
- Provide diverse clinical experiences through the continued development, evaluation, and advancement of affiliated clinical sites.
- Provide high-quality clinical supervision through the continued identification, training, and evaluation of clinical preceptors.
- Provide exceptional facilities, equipment, and other physical resources to support student development.
- Provide opportunities to students to collaborate with faculty and participate in scholarly activity.
- Provide opportunities for faculty and students to participate in professional meetings, community events, and other activities that promote the advancement of the profession and interprofessional relationships.
- Graduates will demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide exceptional patient-centered care as an entry-level professional athletic trainer.
- Graduates will demonstrate knowledge and skill in planning, conducting, analyzing, and applying clinical research in the field of athletic training.
